Trong tiếng Anh giao tiếp, cấu trúc Could you là mẫu câu yêu cầu rất hữu dụng, phổ biến nhưng cũng đảm bảo đủ lịch sự trong cả giao tiếp lẫn văn viết. Please được thêm vào trong câu dùng để nhấn mạnh mức độ quan trọng của yêu cầu, đồng thời cũng cho người nghe thấy được thái độ thành khẩn của người đưa ra yêu cầu.

Ta có cấu trúc Could you please như sau:

Cấu trúc mang nghĩa là: Bạn có thể vui lòng làm gì đó…

Có thể dùng “possibly” thay thế cho “please” để đề nghị lịch sự hơn.

Câu có sử dụng “possibly” nghe có vẻ lịch sự hơn. Vì vậy đây là cách giúp cho câu yêu cầu bạn hay hơn.

Sử dụng Couldn’t để diễn tả người nói hy vọng một câu trả lời có lý hơn.

2. Cấu trúc thay thế cho could you please trong tiếng Anh

Trong những trường hợp không cần quá nhiều sự lịch sự, ta có thể sử dụng Can you(see) để thay thế cho cấu trúc could you please.

= Could you please repeat the homework request again?

Could you please help me with the book in the closet?

Tuy nhiên, Cấu trúc Will you nghe có tính uy vệ hơn. Vì vậy mà cấu trúc này kém lịch sự hơn. Will/would thể đặt ở vị đầu hoặc cuối câu.

Ngoài ra, Will/would cũng có thể được sử dụng cho lời yêu cầu ở ngôi thứ ba:
